The Project
PPL partnered with Gloucester City Council to deliver a transformative redesign and upgrade of their corporate website - a critical resource for the community, housing thousands of pages of content serving diverse audiences, including residents, businesses, and visitors.
The project focused on improving the website’s usability, accessibility, and overall functionality to better serve the community. PPL’s collaborated closely with the council to ensure the templates met the needs of users. To reinforce the commitment to inclusivity, PPL’s in-house rigorously evaluated the site, providing assurance that it adhered to the latest accessibility standards and guidelines.
How was the PPL-managed migration process?
“Upgrading from Umbraco 7 to 13 was a seamless process. Throughout the various stages of the migration, our expectations were clearly defined. Even when there were delays on my end, PPL went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and provide exceptional support.
We requested the migration of our content, which would of taken us considerable time to manage but was handled by PPL swiftly and was extremely reasonable.”
The Platform
Gloucester City Council’s website is built on PPL’s providing the council with access to PPL’s pre-designed and accessibility tested suite of page templates, a custom header and footer, advanced site search, event booking and many more features.
Additional development work included customisations to the standard ‘Feedback’ module, ensuring the tool worked exactly as the council needed.
What are the most valuable elements of the PPL Digital Platform?
“I love having control over the look and feel of our webpages. Previously, our pages were quite generic and required development work for any changes.
With Umbraco 13, I can easily modify the style of our pages using the various content sections available. This is especially helpful when reordering content, as we can simply move the content sections instead of copying and pasting text within the editor.
I also really appreciate our new feedback form, which provides residents with another way to give us feedback. PPL were incredibly patient in developing this feature, and I truly value the time, effort, and energy they dedicated to building it for us.”
